no worries

I've got a lot of addictions. They're all awesome.
"Dream Hampton explained to me about how this is a time when women are fighting for their rights, and here’s a video that describes an assault. I’m actually a very knowledgeable brother, but Dream schooled me in the conversation. It really opened up my eyes to something I had not known about. She told me that if we were kids at a pool and I ran by and yanked her top down, it wouldn’t be a joke or a prank to her – that would be a traumatic incident, and it is along the lines of sexual assault. As little boys, we’re running around tapping girl’s a**es like it’s funny, but they’re really victimized by it. I learned that it’s not a joking matter. I feel like I needed that education because had I not, I could’ve continued thinking that it is a joke. Even with my music filled with misogyny, I still have morals."

Rapper Too $hort being accountable to the backlash surrounding his “fatherly advice” in XXL Magazine.

Woooooow. Is this really where the average dude is at in terms of awareness? This is scary. But I guess it’s good folks are learning?

Well, I’ll be damned! I’m all about #TeamBabySteps. Learning now is wayyyyyy better than never learning.

he also says, when the interviewer asks if Dream forgave him: “There can’t be any forgiveness. I don’t expect anybody to be like, ‘I forgive you for being remorseful.’ That’s bullsh*t. You’ve got to do something. I have to reverse the message.”

when Too fucking Short can understand this and professional f*eminists can’t?? yeah. of course it remains to be seen what he’s going to do, but i’d personally feel much more willing to work with someone who gets that saying “sorry” is not a get out of jail free card and that no one owes you their forgiveness.

So too$hort can look at things from a woman’s perspective and feel a need to consider it but women who claim to speak for the race/gender cant?

(via blackamazon)

THIS is what I was talking about when I said that some black feminists would welcome black misogynists in the name of racial unity just like white feminists welcomed Hugo Schwyzer with open arms. As a black woman, the comment on this quote are REALLY DEPRESSING !

Is this 45 yo who openly promotes sexual assault on underage girls receiving some kind of praises for “being accountable” - the backlash he received sure did help right?????? So are we suppose to be happy now? When women he harasses and possibly sexually assaults turn him down, he doesn’t get it, but now BOOM magically he gets it??

“#Babysteps” WTF!!! This man is 45 years old for fucking sake and until now he didn’t know that sexual harassment was WRONG??? I am not buying this!

He should get a medal for this I guess “She told me that if we were kids at a pool and I ran by and yanked her top down, it wouldn’t be a joke or a prank to her – that would be a traumatic incident“

ColorofChange.org has issued an online petition against XXL and its editor, Vanessa Satten, calling for the editor to resign and for the magazine to make things right.  In a world where three out of five black girls are victims of sexual assault before the age 18, the last thing we need are major publications allowing rappers to train young boys to continue the trend.”

Those who are not ready to let this slide can sign the petition.

But I don’t hear the women who commented above (near the top) attempting to accept him into the Black feminist fold because he said some halfway decent things. I see them willing to acknowledge… that he said some halfway decent things. I mean… isn’t that what baby steps means!?

I’m from Oakland and haven’t been a Too $hort fan since I was 19, but I have heard damn near all this man’s music. So hell fucking yea what he’s saying is important, because I fundamentally believe that this is a man who would never have said it a decade ago. And this is a man who has a pretty devoted fanbase who might learn something from this.

But I don’t understand the point of comparing him to Hugo Schwyzer. I can’t remember any news of him attempting to kill his partner. Not that it’s not possible that it happened (and please enlighten me if it did) but if not, how does this comparison work? Especially since Schwyzer has never, to my knowledge, admitted that his ass is wrong and definitely NOT a feminist. That seems to be what Too $hort, of all fucking people, is admitting.

Could it be a publicity stunt? For sure. Is this dude as offensive to me as a man who basically beat his partner to death and attempts to position it as a misstep? HELL FUCKING NAW!
