I've got a lot of addictions. They're all awesome.
Goddamazon: This whole "don't physically discipline your kids" stuff is some NORTHERN WHITE LIBERAL NONSENSE

That’s why White children are disrespectful as FUCK.

That’s why White families are FOREVER asking Black & Brown women to be mammies and Black & Brown men to be mentors to their damn pickney.

Fuck no.

Even if you don’t physically…

no  no no  this come from a place of … i don’t know i grew up in house were there was DV .. to this day i’m triggerd by the threath of violence .. and i could never do it to a child ever .. it’s just brings me to tear..  and i would be damn if i let people raise a hand to me when i was a child ..  no no no ..

yeah, just shut up and stop creating rubbish claims like white kids are disrespectful because they aren’t thrown across the room.

I’m African American. I grew up with a mother who spanked me. She was a single mother and used physical punishment b/c she honestly didn’t have the time or energy to sit down and talk shit out with me. I don’t blame her.

The problem was, when she was at work my brother was my main guardian. After some trauma he experienced with our father (by drama I mean our father choked him and basically threatened to kill him when he was no more than 12) my brother began to think that physical abuse = discipline.

So he physically abused me for around three years.

I’ve also seen this same boy (now man) leave a belt buckle scar on his 3 year old daughter’s thigh and verbally abuse his children that his partner (who’s barely any better herself) had to ban him (and herself) from physically disciplining their children.

So no… I do not agree whoopings = better behaved children. For some, like me whoopings and other forms of physical abuse = scarred, scared children who become adults eternally afraid of human agression. But even worse, they become adults who believe that the people you love most will eventually hurt you, so why let anyone into your life.

This is an unspoken legacy African Americans need to deal with before they start giving out child-rearing advice.

I always think that in the particular case of hitting little kids is like you’re teaching them that people they love can...
